Why would anyone leave a glamorous job at The New Yorker to become a museum guard? For Patrick Bingley, the terminal illness of his brother sparked a longing to surround himself with beauty. He couldn't imagine a more beautifully restorative place than the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he spent a decade of discovery and wore out nine pairs of company shoes. His acclaimed memoir, All the Beauty in the World, offers an intimate look at an iconic museum, its treasures and the unsung, invisible workers who make it tick.

Moderator Rona Maynard, a seasoned art tourist, will lead us through the portal of the book to a larger discussion of art and art museums as wellsprings of renewal.

If you have ever visited the Met or been touched by the restorative power of art, you won't want to miss our the next meeting of our book club, generously hosted by Sharon London Liss in her art-filled home.
